Frequently asked

I can't hear any pronunciation

DeutschKarten uses the German voice built into your device. If nothing plays, check that your ringer switch isn't on silent, and that a German voice is installed under Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → German. Then tap the speaker button on a card again.

The speech is too fast or too slow

Open any section and tap the speed icon in the top bar to adjust the reading rate.

When does the app make sound?

Only when you ask it to. Cards are silent until you tap the speaker next to the word, which reads every form in order — a verb gives you all three, a noun the singular and the plural. The speaker inside an example reads that sentence.

How do I find a specific word?

Tap the magnifier on the home screen and type in German or English. You don't need the article or the umlauts — typing "gratwand" finds die Gratwanderung. Tapping a result opens that word in its own deck, so you can keep swiping from there.

Where did my progress go?

What you mark as learned is stored on your device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, kept in step with your other devices through your own iCloud account — no account in the app, and nothing is sent to me. It survives app updates; deleting the app erases the local copy. The Reset progress button clears it deliberately.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Every card ships inside the app, so it works on a plane or with no signal.

Which levels does it cover?

A1 through C2, with over 6,000 cards spread across all six levels — the largest share at A2 and B1. Every deck is sorted by difficulty, so you can start at the beginning or jump straight to your level.

Is my data collected?

No. There are no accounts, no analytics and no advertising, and the app makes no network requests at all. See the privacy policy.
